about

Float as the Ghost's self-titled debut full-length, is a concept album with a film to follow. The complex and carefully structured plot was written by Adam Settle (FATG founder) and Mitch Hallum (guitarist), through a series of long nights on the front porch of their Nashville house, between April and September 2015.
Upon completing a solid foundation for the story, Adam began writing song layouts. Mitch would then come in and begin adding lead guitar riffs. Many times they found themselves saying, "I love the way this sounds!" but realized it didn't sound like what was happening in that part of the story. They parted with a lot of beloved riffs and ideas due to this. And, that takes maturity as an artist. It takes commitment to an idea until its completion. And it shows, in the way the two guitars work together and swirl around each other to deliver strong emotion throughout the album.
After both guitars were complete for a song, Adam would produce rough "writing demos" to write lyrics to. He battled through finding an artistic and eloquent way to tell the complicated story they imagined, while retaining catchy melodies, and filling in informational gaps. There are a couple of spots in the album such as track 3 'Dream Waves' where there isn't a heavy amount of plot information to tell. But, Adam found tasteful ways to keep the story moving. The main character and his astronaut colleagues, are in space on their way to Mars. It's not a lot of information to sing about, so Adam begins describing flashbacks and dreams the main character is having about his life back on Earth. It keeps it interesting, while adding to the psychedelic nature of the story, by incorporating dreams that you may not initially recognize as one; rather, something that is happening in reality.
About halfway through writing the album, Jordan Kirkman (drums) and Matt Irizarry (bass) joined to complete the rhythm section. There are a lot of interesting rhythms, and some time signature changes that Jordan translated creatively to drums.
The album was funded by donations made to the band through a successful IndieGoGo campaign, as well as a generous donation made by the producer Eliott Virula, who after hearing the idea, felt he had to be a part of it. He wanted to be the one to produce the album, and the band welcomed him gratefully.
Recorded and mixed by Eliott Virula at his East Nashville Shed Recording studio, and mastered by Sage Audio, Float as the Ghost was produced completely in Nashville, TN. The band has never been more passionate, never worked this hard for a release, and never been more proud of a masterpiece to call their own.
